Artist Statement

Being able to see the virtues of others manifested into reality fascinates me. I have found that jewellery like other art media can be a reflection into the soul of the artist. With tiny earrings one can see the traces of patience, dedication and a striving for perfection. In large inventive pendants are the signs of courage, creativity, determination, and commitment. My work is made from copper, sterling silver, bronze and brass. I am most intrigued by the characteristics of copper. It has the potential to take on different colours and textures ranging from smooth and polished to irregular surfaces with rich earthy tones. Much of my jewellery has a reverent theme, silhouettes of people praying or ripples in a pond have been used in my pendants. The imagery of nature I incorporate in representational. Leaves, scenes of insects or birds nests, and rain drops are some of the designs used in my rings. I tend to design my rings with a degree of flexibility, allowing me to explore and learn from the process. Because of this method I have been able to produce multi-metal, asymmetrical pieces as well. Seeing the traces of the passion, craftsmanship and sincerity put into art is what makes them beautiful and attracts us. This is what I try to explore in my craft.
